ALL LOCKDOWNS COULD BE LIFTED

Though the Pfizer and Moderna vaccines are now rolling out, projections are long-term for when the entire United States, and global population, will be vaccinated. Even then, health authorities advise the continuation of mask-wearing, for it's yet unknown if having been vaccinated prevents transmission.

And while the vaccination process proceeds, infection and death rages on unabated in Europe and elsewhere, national governments impose increasingly severe and repeated lockdowns, economic activity grinds to a halt, and restaurant owners and others individuals owning businesses are beside themselves with grief and worry.

In all, then, the utility, benefit, and necessity, of masking remains, and if one of my two plans, above, were implemented, we could terminate all lockdowns immediately.

Last, this morning I submitted the MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan to the National Institutes of Health NIH COVID-19 Candidate and Technologies Portal. The portal:  "...collects data on diagnostic, vaccine, and other candidates or technologies with near-term potential for testing against COVID-19, as well as other information that could be leveraged in the response to COVID-19."

Since the launch of this website on October 10, 2020, every manner of health authority has come out for masking, publicly stating their belief that masking is absolutely essential to curbing or eliminating the virus.

The principle error each individual or group makes, however, is a constraint of vision in not recognizing that masking must be global, not just national. The MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan remedies that error.

President-Elect Biden has begun reasserting American global leadership in forming a 12-Member Covid-19 Task Force, comprised of top experts. The 195 nations of the world, however, all populations in whole or part infected with the coronavirus, are together akin to a wooden house with 195 rooms, the 12-member Biden Task Force akin to a modern, professional fire department--with a designated area of operation and responsibility of just one of those 195 room--the United States.

Accordingly, while the Biden professional-level fire department may contain, or even extinguish the fire consuming its sole room and single area of responsibility, the United States, the conflagration of the other 194 rooms in the house is never likely to extinguish, and will thus continue repeatedly reigniting our single room, America. The Biden fire department will be putting out the same flames, more-or-less, again and again.

As asserted above, then, our solution must be global in design and implementation, or the Coronavirus has already won.

Murphy's Law does not cease to operate simply because we remain inattentive to, or ignorant, disdainful, or dismissive of, it.

The news of a potentially effective vaccine by the American pharmaceutical giant Pfizer carries only one certain implication for Humanity--grave caution. The possibility of the introduction of this vaccine is pregnant with as much potential catastrophe as liberation, given the misplaced view it can seductively generate in us that the pandemic will soon come to a swift end, and we can thus relax practice of our hard-earned precautionary steps, like masking and distancing. Such a presumption could actually cause an exponential further increase in the spread of the virus--an utter catastrophe, especially if the vaccine proves of less utility than forecast.

Anyone operating in the adult sphere is already familiar with the necessary posture regarding the Pfizer vaccine. We must we approach the possibility of the introduction of this vaccine with grave caution, this way:

And, barring a more powerful option, "preparing for the worst" means immediately implementing my MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan. As I teach others, and include in my in-development book LOVE:  in life, always have a Plan B, and a safety net.

The Pfizer vaccine may or may not prove itself, and it's not here yet, in any case. We cannot depend on a vaccine whose large-scale efficacy is presently a theoretical projection--the fate of the human race is at stake.

Vaccine Distribution

If the United States wishes to revive all or some of what was best about itself in years past, that made her the envy, magnet, and object of adoration of the world, we will first distribute the Coronavirus vaccine to those most in need and vulnerable, from all nations.

The powerful appeal of America during her best years, among other attributes, was her morality and kindness:  she could be counted on to help the needy and vulnerable anywhere, at the very least during time of crisis, which is logical, because our conflicts with this or that nation are almost never due to the actions or behavior of their populations, but their governments, or groups or factions associated with those governments, or in some cases with unaffiliated groups such as ISIS. Our posture of morality made us loved around the world by the people of every nation--which obviously makes excellent strategic, in addition to moral, sense.

This is not rocket science. The genuine practice of love often isn't.

Note that such acts of noblesse oblige, morality and good character should be concomitant with strategic, comprehensive steps to strengthen and restore America in military, cultural, and other terms.

If you are informed, surveying a range of informational materials concerning the Coronavirus pandemic, you are aware that there isn't, nor can there presently be, any consensus regarding its course. We simply have no idea when the pandemic will end, or even become manageable, nor when and whether the virus, itself, will ever disappear. Yet, global society must operate. Accordingly, we need a powerful socio-epidemiological tool to manage and balance these two realities, converting them, in fact, to one holistic integrated reality, sustainable long-term.

Sustainable means 1.) medically effective and 2.) acceptable, or increasingly acceptable as refinements are made, to the human global population.

We have such a socio-epidemiological tool. At once plan and mindset, the Permanent Pandemic Protocol (P3 or P³) is a set of procedures to follow by all nations, centered, for the foreseeable future around masking--our most potent and reliable present protective measure. Under P3, this measure is to be 1.) mandatory and 2.) global, that is, adopted and enforced by every country.

There is simply no more time to rely, or solely rely, on rules, guidelines, policies, or recommendations that are unrealistic (quick, fully effective vaccine), hit-or-miss (social distancing), rear-guard (contact tracing), or permit of ego, caprice, ignorance, rapacity, or any other insubstantial consideration in formulation, acceptance, adoption, or execution.

It's reasonable to assume the necessity for one or more diplomatic meetings or conferences, right away, to achieve the desired unanimity among all nations. One large, one-time conference, virtually if necessary, is desirable to expedite this process.

There is little time to spare.

One approach calls for a world leader of particular significance and influence, such as the President-Elect of the United States, to assume the lead in calling for, and organizing, the conference. Or, a consortium of leaders could do it.

In View from abroad: Europe welcomes a Biden presidency, but is also wary, The New York Times reports:

Well-put by the ambassador. A multilateral initiative is precisely what the MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan is, and a more important one simply cannot be had at this moment in the long arc of the history of the human race.

Although no one on Earth, medical authority or anyone else, has yet matched my plan for Mandatory Global Masking, if you read this white paper, or review pandemic news regularly, even better, it's clear that there is now a continual incremental consensus among health authorities favoring increasing, widespread masking. For example, The New York Times reports, just yesterday, November 11, 2020:

Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, himself, quoted above, is now flirting with a recommendation for national masking.

Thus do the party-goers playing Pin-The-Tail-On-The-Donkey continue to pin its tail roundly near, but not precisely on, its proper location. Ladies, & Gentleman, Brothers & Sisters, shall we simply remove our blindfold--and pin that tail precisely? The Centers for Disease Control just stated, in its report updated November 10, 2020:

Among other things, my MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan simply enlarges our definition of parameter community to its logical endpoint:  the entire planet.

What are those "three little words" that Hollywood tells us a girl longs to hear?

If it's Fall 2020 and it's an astute girl, the words, without question, are, Mandatory Global Masking. Humor aside, as a World, Species, and Human Family, we can no longer dance around the truth. We must forthrightly declare the obvious:   masking is actually the linchpin to large-scale, widespread containment and eradication of this pathogen, the Coronavirus--its full global termination now.

We don't need a technical or medical breakthrough, we already have the breakthrough:  mandatory global masking immediately (in concert with mandatory social distancing and several other secondary steps).

The world is burning around us--while we fiddle.

Someone infected merely coughs, sneezes, or breathes, propelling aerosols containing the virus outward and generally forward, giving it a free ride up to as far as 13' in some instances (de-emphasize the old 6' estimate), when it is then simply breathed in by another person, who has now haplessly become infected. The Coronavirus, along with fellow parasites like the bedbug, is perhaps the ultimate hitchhiker; perhaps the ultimate windsurfer, in the case of the Coronavirus.

We don't know how lucky we are that the Coronavirus requires air, and not surfaces, for transmission. Why? Because airborne transmission means that a simple facemask effectively stops individual contagion and can easily eliminate the entire pandemic, if we'd all just mask-up.

Wearing a mask is an obviously superior strategy because it physically eliminates the vector of travel, air, that the virus must have. It cuts the virus off at its knees by preventing access to its method of travel.

In other words:  with the mask on, that virus is simply not going anywhere. I can no longer infect you, and you can no longer infect me. If all persons worldwide simultaneously blocked such viral transmission it would effectively spell the end of the pandemic, because the virus simply could not reproduce. We'd have eliminated its entire vector for reproduction.

Q.) What happens to any species that can't reproduce? A.) It dies out.

If you're cooking soup in a metal pot, how best to avoid burns? Hold the metal handle with your bare hand, then after you're burned, drive to the hospital? Or simply use a potholder to prevent a burn in the first place? Your mask is your potholder--a tried-and-true, simple-to-use implement that saves you from far worse than a scalded hand, as excruciatingly painful as that is:   it saves you, and planet Earth, from death, itself.

It took me about five seconds to realize that masking is just about the entire answer.

Love good news? The global pandemic is relatively easily resolvable in three words:  Mandatory Global Masking.

Why Everybody

Why must every single person on planet Earth be masked, when some individuals, regions, or other collections of persons remain uninfected? Because, for one thing, international travel means that someone from a region or country of high infection can easily and unexpectedly infect someone from a region or country of low infection. Also, even within regions of low infection there are some infections, which, left unchecked by little or no masking, for example, can spread within that country (and elsewhere) and raise the infection rate of the previously low-rated region or country. Last, the Coronavirus is proving itself tough, resilient, and clever, a battle-hardened micro-warrior bent, much like the Borg of Star Trek or the Terminator of that franchise, on just one thing:  insinuating itself into, and categorically dominating, the human species. We human beings, for our part, are largely proving ourselves, in contrast, divided, politically motivated, anti-science, and egoistic.

Result? The virus wins.

We humans have a tendency to be our own worst enemy. Such counterproductive paradox might be tolerable any other time, but now, with a biological warrior 1/900 the size of the diameter of a human hair with us directly in its own crosshairs, left unchecked, such inconsistency is suicide--and eventually, genocide. So must we do an end-run around ourselves, around our own flaws, limitations, and idiosyncrasies. We must protect us from ourselves by employing the one tactic that we know works, and is utterly painless--masking.

Result? The virus loses.

1. THERE IS A VIRUS RAVAGING PLANET EARTH.

2. IT IS A MEMBER OF VIRAL CLASS CORONAVIRUS, SPECIFICALLY COVID-19.

3. IF YOU ARE OLDER, YOUNGER, OR IMMUNO-COMPROMISED AND CONTRACT THE VIRUS, IT WILL PROBABLY KILL YOU.

4. IT INJURES AND SOMETIMES KILLS PERSON IN OTHER AGE GROUPS AS WELL.

5. THERE IS NO CURE FOR THIS VIRUS.

   (EARLY IN THE PANDEMIC, A HYDROXYCHLOROQUINE-BASED DRUG "COCKTAIL," ACCORDING TO SOME SOURCES, NOTABLY PRESIDENT TRUMP AND HIS REPRESENTATIVE RUDOLPH GIULIANI, AND OTHERS WAS VERY PROMISING FOR LIGHT-TO-MODERATE SYMPTOMOLOGY AND POSSIBLE PROPHYLACTIC USE, ALTHOUGH THIS CLAIM WAS SHARPLY DISPUTED, AND INDEED LARGELY DISCOUNTED, BY LEADING MEDICAL AUTHORITIES).

6. IN A REALITY BLITHELY IGNORED BY MANY, THIS VIRUS IS TO BE FEARED. IT IS HIGHLY VIRULENT (I.E. CONTAGIOUS), HAS NO CURE, NOR VACCINE, AND IF LEFT UNCHECKED, OR IMPROPERLY-ADDRESSED, WILL OBLITERATE HUMANKIND. YOU'LL BE DEAD AND SO WILL EVERYONE YOU KNOW AND LOVE, ALONG WITH EVERYONE ELSE.

   INDEED, THIS IS PRECISELY WHAT'S STARTING TO HAPPEN NOW, OCTOBER 2020, AS MANY AREAS OF THE WORLD BEGIN TO SUFFER THEIR SECOND OR EVEN THIRD RESURGENT VIRAL WAVE. THIS INCLUDES NATIONS THAT THOUGHT THEY HAD OVERCOME THE PATHOGEN, SUCH AS ITALY.

   ANY GENUINELY EFFECTIVE STEP THAT CAN BE TAKEN TO KILL OR CRIPPLE THIS INSIDIOUS, MERCILESS, MICROSCOPIC ENEMY MUST BE TAKEN--IGNORANCE AND MISGUIDED EGO, NOTWITHSTANDING. UNDER THIS DEFINITIVELY DIRE SOCIO-EXISTENTIAL THREAT, THERE IS SIMPLY ZERO TIME LEFT FOR IGNORANCE OR EGO-DRIVEN OMISSION OR MISDIRECTION.

   THE EXISTENCE OF THE HUMAN RACE IS LITERALLY AT STAKE.

   THE MOST STRIDENT ANTI-MASKER CONFRONTED IN A DARK ALLEY WITH A HOSTILE AND MURDEROUS ATTACKER, A MUGGER OR UNBALANCED PERSON, PERHAPS, WOULD ALMOST CERTAINLY SPRING INTO ACTION TO SAVE LIFE AND LIMB, HIS OWN AND THAT OF THOSE AROUND HIM. BUT IN THE FACE OF THE CORONAVIRUS, NO-LESS AN ENEMY, EXCEPT ONE THAT IS ACTUALLY FAR MORE DANGEROUS THAN AN EASILY IDENTIFIED AND REPULSED HUMAN ATTACKER, THIS SAME ANTI-MASKER NOT MERELY DOES NOTHING, BUT IN FACT OPENLY DERIDES (i.e. RIDICULES) AND EVEN EXCORIATES (i.e. BITTERLY ATTACKS) THE POTENT OFFENSIVE WEAPON IN HIS HAND, THE MASK, AND THOSE WHO RIGHTLY URGE HIM TO USE IT.

   THUS DOES HE CONSIGN HIMSELF, AND US, TO VICTIMHOOD, THAT IS--OBLIVION.

7. UNTIL RECENTLY, THE PRINCIPAL WAY THE AMERICAN AND OTHER AUTHORITIES ARE TRYING TO FIGHT THIS VIRUS IS THE POLICY OF "SOCIAL DISTANCING." THIS MEANS EACH PERSON SHOULD STAY ABOUT SIX FEET AWAY FROM EVERY OTHER PERSON. THEN, IF SOMEONE INFECTED COUGHS OR SNEEZES, AND TINY DROPLETS COME OUT OF THEIR MOUTH OR NOSE AND ENTER THE AIR, THE DROPLETS WILL BE TOO FAR AWAY FOR OTHER PEOPLE TO BREATHE IN AND GET SICK.

8. THIS METHOD OF ERADICATION, HOWEVER, IS HIT OR MISS, HARD TO ENFORCE, AND IN WESTERN NATIONS BRINGS UP LEGITIMATE QUESTIONS OF CIVIL LIBERTIES, AS BASED ON THIS METHOD GOVERNMENTS CAN OUTLAW ALL PERSONS IN GROUPS, EVEN KIDS IN THE PLAYGROUND, WHO CAN NO LONGER PLAY TOGETHER THERE, BUT MUST MOVE TO GRASSY AREAS, AND KEEP AWAY FROM EACH OTHER.

   ADDITIONALLY, TRYING TO IMPLEMENT SOCIAL DISTANCING IN A CITY LIKE DELHI, INDIA WITH A POPULATION DENSITY AKIN TO THAT OF A BRICK IS VIRTUALLY IMPOSSIBLE. ALL THAT CAN BE SAID ABOUT SUCH AN ENDEAVOR, FOR NOW, IS THAT THE PROBLEM SUGGESTS A SOCIETAL STEP CONTAINED IN MY WORK FOR SOME TIME:  EXPLICIT POPULATION CONTROL. SUCH A POLICY WOULD HELP PRESERVE THE NATURAL AND OTHER RESOURCES NEEDED BY HUMANKIND, AND NOW IN THE AGE OF PANDEMICS WHEN POPULATION DENSITY EQUALS DEATH, THE POLICY TAKES ON NEW LIFE.

   THIS EVENING, OCTOBER 29, 2020, AN NPR/NATIONAL PUBLIC RADIO 820 AM SEGMENT ON HOW INDIA IS FARING DURING THE PANDEMIC HAD A FEMALE EXPERT ON INDIA ASSERTING THAT ALL OR SOME OF THE INDIAN PEOPLE ARE "...SICK OF WEARING MASKS." HEARING THIS RIDICULOUS NOTION MADE ME SMILE WRYLY, AS IT CORROBORATED A KEY NOTION:  HUMANKIND AS A WHOLE HAS YET TO ACTUALIZE, THAT IS, REACH A LEVEL AND KIND OF OPTIMAL FUNCTION AND ACHIEVEMENT. THAT THE POPULATION OF INDIA OR ANYPLACE ELSE COULD BE TIRED OF WEARING MASKS GIVEN 1.) THE DEADLY OUTBREAK ALL AROUND US FOR WHICH MASKING IS JUST ABOUT THE ONLY ANTIDOTE, AND 2.) THE EXTREMELY SHORT TIME DURING WHICH IT'S BEEN ASKED TO WEAR ONE, SO FAR, CLEARLY INDICATES THE BASELINE LEVEL OF IMMATURITY OF FUNCTION AT WHICH INDIA FINDS, ITSELF, AT PRESENT, A COUNTRY-MILE AWAY FROM ANY SORT OF ACTUALIZATION IN PERSONALITY OR ACHIEVEMENT.

   COMING FULL CIRCLE:  SOCIAL DISTANCING DOESN'T CONTAIN THE VIRUS, AT ALL, MAKING IT A KIND OF ABSURDLY HIT-OR-MISS STEP.

9. THERE IS A FAR BETTER WAY TO ERADICATE THE CORONAVIRUS; WE'LL CALL THIS PLAN MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING. THIS PLAN IS SIMPLE, STRAIGHTFORWARD, AND EXTREMELY EASY TO TRACK AND ENFORCE, AND IS THUS FAR MORE EFFECTIVE THAN SOCIAL-DISTANCING.

   THIS ALTERNATIVE METHOD WOULD ALSO APPEAR TO BE INHERENTLY MORE EFFECTIVE, AS WELL. MEANING, MORE EFFECTIVE SIMPLY BECAUSE IT CONTAINS THE VIRUS FAR BETTER THAN SOCIAL DISTANCING, ALONE. IN FACT, SOCIAL DISTANCING DOESN'T CONTAIN THE VIRUS, AT ALL, IT JUST TRIES TO KEEP POTENTIAL VICTIMS OUT OF ITS WAY, MAKING IT AN ABSURDLY HIT-OR-MISS AND IMPRECISE TACTIC. AND NOW THAT THE CDC REPORTS THAT THE VIRUS CAN TRAVEL AS FAR AS 13' (ITS MAXIMUM TRANSMISSION DISTANCE) IN SOME INSTANCES, SOCIAL DISTANCING MUST BE FIRMLY UNDERSTOOD AS A CO-TACTIC, IN CONCERT WITH MASKING, WHICH I ASSERT NOW EMERGES AS THE PRINCIPLE SAFEGUARD AGAINST THE VIRUS.

   SOCIAL DISTANCING IS ALSO UNREALISTIC IN TERMS OF THE SOCIAL NATURE OF HUMAN BEINGS. WE ARE NOT BUILT TO BE SOCIAL-DISTANCERS, BUT, IN FACT, THE OPPOSITE.

10. IMPLEMENTATION OF THIS NEW AND ABSOLUTELY CRITICAL PLAN, MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING, WOULD LIKELY RENDER SOCIAL-DISTANCING A SECOND-TIER TACTIC, FAR BEHIND THE NEW METHOD.

11. SPEAKING AT A LOWER VOLUME AT ALL TIMES IS ALSO IMPORTANT, TO MINIMIZE EXPULSION OF SALIVA COMPONENTS AND AEROSOLS THAT LIKELY CONTAIN THE VIRUS, IF YOU'RE INFECTED. A SERIOUS EFFORT TO IMPLEMENT THIS STEP IMPLIES NEW NOISE REGULATION, THAT AMERICA (AND LIKELY MANY OTHER NATIONS) HASN'T SEEN IN MANY YEARS. TODAY, THE UBIQUITOUS SO-CALLED "LEAFBLOWER," TOGETHER WITH OTHER LOUD MACHINERY, EQUIPMENT, MOTORCYCLES AND AUTOMOBILES, HAS DESTROYED THE SONIC LANDSCAPE OF THIS COUNTRY AND DRIVEN MANY HOMEOWNERS AND OTHERS INTO COMPLETE MISERY, THAT IS, PHYSICAL AND PSYCHOLOGICAL ILLNESS.

12. CONTACT TRACING? YES, AS A SECOND-TIER STEP. IT IS NOT A FIRST-LINE DEFENSE. IT'S AN AFTER-THE-FACT, REAR-GUARD ACTION THAT IS COMPLEX AND REQUIRES COOPERATION FROM SCORES OF PEOPLE--AFTER ONE OR MORE PERSONS ARE ALREADY INFECTED. ANY STRATEGY OR TECHNIQUE WITH A POST-INFECTION IMPLEMENTATION MUST BE SUSPECT. IT CANNOT BE A FRONT OR FIRST-LINE OPTION.

13. LOCKDOWNS. YES, LIKELY REQUIRED, BUT AS ONE OF OUR SECONDARY GROUP OF STEPS (SEE BELOW), AS MANY NATIONS ESCHEW THE DEVASTATING ECONOMIC AND SOCIAL EFFECTS OF THIS KIND OF STEP.

14. DURING THE INITIAL MONTHS OF THE PANDEMIC, GOVERNMENTS AND MEDICAL AUTHORITIES WERE SCRAMBLING TO INCREASE PRODUCTION OF VENTILATORS. SOME COMPANIES, SUCH AS GENERAL MOTORS AND DYSON, EVEN FOUND THEMSELVES ABRUPTLY AND UNEXPECTEDLY ENTERING THE VENTILATOR BUSINESS.

15. IN LIKE, THOUGH GREATLY AMPLIFIED FASHION, WERE THIS NEW METHOD OF CONTROL ADOPTED, MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING, IT WOULD HAVE THE SIGNIFICANT SECONDARY BENEFIT OF PROVIDING A STRONG ECONOMIC IMPULSE TO THE AMERICAN AND GLOBAL ECONOMIES, LIKELY SPAWNING ONE OR MORE ENTIRE NEW INDUSTRIES, REVOLVING AROUND MASKING AND MASKING TECHNOLOGIES AND MATERIALS. INDEED, THIS NASCENT INDUSTRY ALREADY EXISTS. MORE ON THIS, BELOW.

16. SHORT OF A PROVEN VACCINE, MEDICATION, OR UNANTICIPATED OTHER REMEDY, MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING IS THE METHOD THAT WILL MOST QUICKLY CURB, THEN ERADICATE, THE CORONAVIRUS, RESTORE THE AMERICAN AND GLOBAL ECONOMIES, AND RETURN NORMALCY OF LIFE TO EVERYONE ON PLANET EARTH.

    NOTE THAT, WITH SOME CONTROVERSY, A NEW LARGE-SCALE STUDY APPEARS TO HAVE PROVEN THAT "REMDESIVIR, THE ONLY ANTIVIRAL DRUG AUTHORIZED FOR TREATMENT OF COVID-19 IN THE UNITED STATES, FAILS TO PREVENT DEATHS AMONG PATIENTS," ILLUSTRATING THE DIFFICULTY IN PINNING ALL HOPES ON DEVELOPMENT, AND FAST DEVELOPMENT AT THAT, OF A SAFE AND WIDELY EFFECTIVE VACCINE.

17. I ASSURE ALL GOVERNMENTAL, CORPORATE, AND OTHER VOICES ACROSS THE WORLD SEEKING TO "REOPEN" THEIR ECONOMIES SOONER NOT LATER--THERE IS NO OTHER WAY, SAVE MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING.

Enforcement of masking in your country is not, must not, and indeed cannot be an excuse to fulfill political, economic, personal, or state agendas of any kind if we're to execute this plan as smoothly as possible, and see it succeed.

If your population, or the global population, begins to believe that this is what you're doing, the efforts of your nation to participate in the MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan and help rid the entire planet--including your own nation--of this pandemic once and for all will be compromised, likely permanently.

Then, instead of effecting a permanent eradication of the Coronavirus, you'll have helped effect a permanent eradication of your own credibility as a nation and a leader. Just don't do it--the pandemic is that serious. The future of the human race is literally at stake; no fooling around can be tolerated on the part of citizens, who must mask, and governments, who must competently oversee the masking program.

If my MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan is effectuated (i.e. implemented), you, your job, family, friends, neighbors, and indeed all of planet Earth will literally be saved. The global death toll will decrease rapidly. The global economy will return, you'll be able to dispense with mask-wearing forever, much sooner rather than much later (or perhaps without my plan--never). Lockdowns will likely be a thing of the past.

Indeed, two-time Pulitzer-prize winning opinion columnist Nicholas Kristof knowledgeably opined, on July 01, 2020 in the The New York Times:

Additionally, through execution of MGM we'll have a potent, proven plan for future use, if we remain stupid enough to ever need it, again.

I cannot control whether my plan is adopted and implemented--you must help with that by distributing this web address as widely as possible. Please post it to your Facebook page and personal web site. Send it to literally everyone you know, and request that each of them send it to every person they, know, and so on. Send the link to your political representatives, and to every publication and periodical that you can, from The New York Times to your hometown paper, and everywhere in between.

Please translate this page accurately into as many languages as possible, then circulate your translations widely. This plan must go viral globally, to maximize the chance that it will be seen and adopted. Remember--it calls for the leader or leading political body of every single nation on Earth to take the action step I have proffered as critical--mandatory masking for each and every of their citizens, from teen up.

This Internet resource, MANDATORY MASKING, went live on October 10 (or 11), 2020, presenting to the world for the first time its urgent recommendation that every country on planet Earth mandate that all its adults and teens be masked, indefinitely.

Now, I see that for his part Dr. Anthony S. Fauci, on October 23, 2020, the first time to my knowledge, publicly stated that he would affix his imprimatur to a mask mandate covering the entire United States.

Dr. Fauci, according to Wikipedia, has been the "...Director of the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases since 1984, and since January 2020 one of the lead members of the Trump administration's White House Coronavirus Task Force addressing the COVID-19 pandemic." He made the masking mandate statement on the CNN cable news network.

Thus we see that my proposal entered the public sphere two weeks before Dr. Fauci's trial balloon, and in its masking mandate for every nation, not just one, is far more realistic, comprehensive, and powerful, hence, far more likely to bring about our desired, and indeed direly-needed, outcome:  a permanent end to the Coronavirus pandemic.

Here then, is our blueprint for success. MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING is the number #1 plank in our Pandemic Defense Strategy Platform.

We then have a grouping of #2 planks:

1. Social distancing, enforced everywhere via utilization of Pandemic Compliance Guides (see Compliance, below).

2. Avoiding large gatherings, outdoor and indoor.

3. Conceptualize "public" gathering:  as it's now clear that infection or a resurgence in infection can occur via the vector of indoor gatherings, "public" must be defined by number of persons present together at a location, not proximity to either the interior or exterior side of the wall of a building.

   For example, an indoor gathering of 10 (or more) persons could be considered a "public" gathering and would therefore trigger the masking requirement, whereas 100 people outside, if not physically near each other, would not.

   Accordingly, any planned gathering classified as "public," such as comprised of 10 or more persons, whether out-or-indoors, would require pre-registration with the Transmission Tracking Office, which would conduct random mask checks of said registered gatherings. Such checks could be conducted virtually, to minimize intrusiveness.

   Better all this, than lose the human race. Moreover, these measures are easier to tolerate if we begin to conceptualize we human beings on this planet as less a mere society and far more a community. Even--a family.

4. Speaking at a lower volume at all times, to minimize expulsion of saliva components and aerosols that likely contain the virus of infected persons.

5. Contact tracing.

6. Selective use of local, regional, and national lockdowns.

7. Monitoring of wastewater for traces of virus.

8. Development of a vaccine, obviously.

9. Judicious use of fans. Just as the air current of a fan prevents mosquitoes from flying, forcibly diverting them away from humans, a fan likewise prevents expelled human aerosols from traveling in undesired directions, likewise forcibly diverting them away from humans.

   Various size and shape fans, and answers to the key questions of placement and directionality must be experimented with, until the optimal combination of technical parameters is found. Important:  not all environments are amenable to fan use, and formulated incorrectly, a plan for fan use can actually counterproductively spread the Coronavirus.

   REPEAT:  fan use is not appropriate for use in all environments, and could be dangerous.

   Yet, standard tabletop and floorstanding fans may be important in environments such as homes, hospitals, and businesses where various groupings of persons tend to remain in fixed locations, and a barren, no-people zone can be established for blown, potentially virus-laden air after it's passed through its "target" area of human presence.

   For example, in a service environment consisting of a counter or desk staffed by an employee, and in front of the counter or desk a line of customers or clients waiting to approach the counter, a bank of tall, floorstanding fans could be placed along the right wall (as facing the counter), blowing toward the line of persons. With sufficient velocity, all aerosols expelled by those in line would immediately be blown downwind toward the opposing left-side wall area, which would be an empty, no-people zone, left deliberately devoid of people.

   Caregiving my own Mother, I keep a small tabletop fan aimed between she, often in bed, and myself, often standing in front, or just to the side, of her. Though wearing a mask, as well, any stray aerosols I've emitted are almost certainly being immediately and forcefully blown and diverted away from both of us, toward her open bedroom door and the unpopulated hallway just outside it.

   This is a representative example of proper fan use, that is likely having a decisively positive outcome.

   Fans, then, used with intelligence and technical precision, can comprise an important, even key tactical step in ameliorating the effects of the virus.

   Here is a ceiling fan, albeit expensive, designed specifically to kill the airborne virus, that appears to work.

RIDICULOUS & OUTRAGEOUS

Mandate that every adult and teenager on Earth wear a mask (or its equivalent) much of the time, indefinitely?

Regarding the plausibility and desirability of this plan, MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING, one might also add unrealistic, unworkable, fascistic, implausible, fanciful, preposterous, and any other desired adjective...if you have a better plan. If not, put away your thesaurus and let's get to work implementing my plan, immediately.

Ladies & Gentlemen, Brothers & Sisters, the fact is, in releasing this virus, humanity committed one of its most colossal blunders, and must now pay the price, whatever it is, to redress the problem--before it gets even worse.

Is this a planet where the adults are still in charge? If so, the hard facts, above, are apparent, and accepted.

COMPLIANCE

For the MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan to succeed, there must be mechanisms to encourage compliance.

Every environment of social cluster, such as, typically, business, sporting events, parks, and houses of worship must have a Pandemic Compliance Guide ("officer" is too heavy-handed) to ensure that customers, attendees, or participants comply with 1.) masking and 2.) social distancing guidelines. In my travels (and travails) at my local Shop-Rite supermarket, for example, customers routinely ignore social distancing guidelines. Two days ago a woman pushing a cart came down the aisle toward me in the wrong direction, then stopped about 1.0' or perhaps 1.5' from me to examine items on the shelf. The cart boys at that same market, according to management, need not engage in any masking whatsoever. My own observation clearly illustrates that these young men in the performance of their duties routinely and frequently come in very close contact with shoppers ingressing and egressing the supermarket.

The job of the Pandemic Compliance Guide (PCG) will be to travel the store, stadium, park, place of worship, etc. for which they work, and amiably and gently correct customers, attendees, or participants who are in real-time non-compliance. Real-time meaning once the non-compliant behavior has terminated, the individual will not be approached, unless and until they engage in said non-compliance again, which they likely will. Attempting to assert to the transgressing individual that they have broken a guideline after the fact could result in conflict and argument.

WORKS PROGRESS ADMINISTRATION 2020

In a modern-day Works Progress Administration, President-Elect Biden might consider the government hiring of a large number of PCG's, Pandemic Compliance Guides, say, 1,000,000 for employment across the country in stores, businesses, places of worship, outdoor venues such as sports stadia, outdoor spaces such as public parks, and elsewhere.

Yes, it's that important.

This would assist the American population in adhering to Pandemic-control guidelines, thereby helping to bring the pathogen under control, and would provide an all-important assist to individuals and families struggling with un-or-lesser employment, which itself would provide a significant stimulus to the economy. This particular stimulus, perhaps in concert with the new American masking industry, could provide a substantive, vital, and critically-needed boost to the larger American economy, as well as to the economies of other nations attempting a like strategy.

The actual problem we're experiencing around the globe is not a virus. IT IS HUMAN STUPIDITY.

Like many, I feel self-conscious or otherwise uncomfortable walking around wearing a mask. But my discomfit has nothing to do with the mask, per se'. What I actually feel is shame. Shame at my race, the human race, because of our deep and obvious stupidity in permitting this pandemic.

This pandemic should never have occurred in the first place. And when it did, the response should have been categorically honest, swift, and socially and technically optimal. We need not merely virus containment, but just as importantly, Stupidity Control, a developing theme in my main body of work in social science.

Moreover, we now have a contingent of persons, evidently centered in the United States, who refuse to wear a mask, or do so only grudgingly. This, too, in my view represents and manifests the human phenomenon of stupidity. Notice that I have not labeled anyone "stupid," only behavior and attitudes (a key distinction that I'm presently exploring in my work in social science). For example, on two separate occasions within the past 90 days I called into the WABC radio program of Guardian Angels founder, media personality, and 2021 candidate for the NYC mayoralty Curtis Sliwa, co-hosted with media personality Juliet Huddy. Mr. Sliwa is almost completely against masking, and, a frequent listener, I've personally heard him rant paranoiacally against masking several times. Both times I called, I tried to respectfully rebuke him for shamelessly dispensing misleading and dangerous anti-masking information to millions of listeners.

Mr. Sliwa hung up on me both times.

Just yesterday, Thursday, October 15, 2020, I posted a terse message to the Curtis & Juliet Facebook page notifying they and their audience of the existence of this new web site, MandatoryGlobalMasking.com.

Within hours the post was gone.

In accord with the principles of Love, properly understood, that the world needs desperately, the appropriate action for Mr. Sliwa is simply to apologize to me for his discourteous on-air behavior.

Treating other people properly is not exactly rocket science.

MURDER, INCORPORATED

As originally reported in The New York Times on Oct. 31, 2020, in an extremely important article, Stanford researchers have found that the political rallies of President Trump, with masking and other pandemic protections disturbingly ignored, are likely responsible for the deaths of 700 Americans and the injury of at least 30,000:

"A group of Stanford University economists who created a statistical model estimate that there have been at least 30,000 coronavirus infections and 700 deaths as a result of 18 campaign rallies President Trump held from June to September."

If these events, attended by thousands, were responsible for this many deaths, and this much injury, expense, and personal, social, and economic disruption, what kind of advanced computational model, employing what exponential factor of multiplication, must be used to calculate the analogous damage caused by the far larger scale of injury likely perpetrated by Mr. Sliwa during his radio broadcasts, as he pontificates not to thousands but an audience of millions?

How much death and devastation, in other words, is Curtis Sliwa directly responsible for because of his aggressive anti-masking rants, comprising radio, and even basic human expression, of the worst kind, consumed by millions of listeners, at once trusting and confused?

And while this white paper was not conceived to oppose the 2021 New York City Mayoralty campaign of Mr. Sliwa, his fatally poor judgment and deadly buffoonish behavior regarding masking and other protections, that likely has, may still be, and may yet, continue to directly generate untold numbers of Coronavirus deaths and new infections, in concert with his other questionable on-air, profit-and-ego-driven endeavors in matters of health, influencing others toward medically unsound and in fact dangerous behaviors such as popping (that is, consuming) "Balance of Nature" brand vitamin-style pills, instead of consuming actual fruits and vegetables, an utterly wrong-headed and misguided exhortation, especially for persons for whom proper nutrition is key, and could, indeed, spell the difference between life and death, is, in my view, cogent and undeniable testimony against the suitability of this man for the Mayoralty of New York City, a key international hub of commerce, culture, and medicine.

S FACTOR

If this factor, and phenomenon, what I'll term the S FACTOR, human stupidity, remains uncorrected, it will continue to drive the crisis-stream, generating crisis after crisis. Thus far we're attempting--poorly--to negotiate climate change, and now this pandemic. That's two socio-existential crises, so far--and the decade has just begun (slightly further back in American history, mentioned below, we find two more unnecessary crises).

Ladies & Gentlemen, I submit:  two recent crises of such scale are enough for now.

Agreed?

FOURTH TIME'S A CHARM

As implied, above, the Coronavirus pandemic of 2020 is actually the fourth time that the United States has been caught with its pants down.

The other three events were the terror attacks of September 11, 2001, the ongoing crisis of climate change, and the misinterpretation in 1941 of the U.S. radar interception of a large squadron of planes headed toward Hawai--that turned out to be the Pearl Harbor attack.

Nor, in providing cursory examples of our present stupidity and incompetence do I refer only to the four crises alluded to, above, but to such events as the criminal incompetence of Being and the FAA in mishandling the technology in the Boeing MAX airplane resulting in loss of life in two 2019 crashes, and even the time I ordered extra cheese on my burger at Burger King and found no cheese, at all, which is actually more worrying than the Boeing crimes, because the Boeing crimes represent the usual corporate-government corruption, while the Burger King example indicates that even the everyday worker and consumer now exist in an ascendent sphere of stupidity and incompetence.

And if you think it's bad now, just wait until America legalizes marijuana. Then, in addition to the unacceptably high levels of incompetence and stupidity on flagrant display in American society, already (I experience them daily as citizen and consumer in this society), millions upon millions of Americans will now be walking around stoned. And it gets worse:  given the easily-concealable nature of the marijuana high, you won't even know who they are--and they're not likely to tell you. Millions of Americans of every age, gender, ethnicity, and profession walking around stoned will comprise a hidden, fluid sub-segment of the population, quietly and implicitly working 24-hours-a-day from coast-to-coast and North-to-South, from the largest metropolitan city to the smallest village or hamlet to further compromise and emasculate every aspect of this culture, by pushing it down even further into the abyss of human incompetence and stupidity, and pointedly away from the zenith of excellence that, at once, most human societies seek for themselves, and American society already imagines itself to possess.

Your bus drivers, doctors, nurses, automobile mechanics, pilots, school teachers, crossing guards, police officers, military personnel, waitresses, factory workers, computer programmers, chemical engineers, software designers, and many others will be quietly stoned, on and off the job. The nature of the marijuana high is such that persons who regularly smoke or otherwise consume it always maintain a level of THC, the active ingredient, in their bloodstream--thus, they are always high. They can never escape it and neither can you and your family--their unwitting victims.

Dynamic of Distrust

Part of the new Dynamic of Distrust (the new DoD) that will define America will be the new question that will come to define, even overtake, our interior state:  each and every time something anomalous happens, from someone bumping you on the subway, to the crash of an American military helicopter, to an improperly-designed oven that catches fire, to your teenage daughter appearing unusually weepy, distraught, or temperamental, to an unexplained fire at the historic Notre Dame cathedral in Paris, France, to improperly-designed software on a new Boeing 747 model, to someone unwittingly releasing a coronavirus into the environment, or, perhaps, even, to a Caucasian police officer holding his knee on the neck of an African-American suspect for 7 minutes and 46 seconds, killing him, every manner of event that you'd ordinarily ascribe to innocent, or at least usual, causes--fatigue, anger, distraction, ordinary incompetence, even bias--will lose its innocence as you automatically wonder if the perpetrator, the transgressor, committed the action, or inaction, in whole or part because they were high. Either high at the moment of the transgression, or high an hour, day, or even week before, as the active ingredient in marijuana, THC, is known to remain in the bloodstream long after the drug is consumed.

Thus, that without which no society can survive, will be gone:

Trust.

If trust remains an integral part of a properly-functioning, and certainly optimally functioning, society, then forget America, for she will have taken yet another firm step downward, one full order-of-magnitude, to third-world-nation status.

Mexico has just made dope use legal throughout the entire country. Isn't this development, alone, enough to raise a red flag indicating that we should not do it? That we should not emulate such flagrantly unwise and injudicious decisionmaking? Is Mexico, a third-world nation or close to it, drenched in the myriad harms and locked in the evidently immutable control of its drug cartels, now the role model for the United States of America?

When did such wholesale devolution of America occur--was I asleep?

It's War

The World War II years, between roughly 1939 and 1945, were of unspeakable gravity as Hitler's forces moved aggressively toward world domination. We needed a smart, tough, aggressive, clear-headed and clear-thinking world if we were to defeat the dictator and save ourselves. And we had such a world, at that time, and did defeat him. One wonders, however, if a stoned American citizenry could today negotiate such a catastrophic, protracted international crisis, a major world war, as we did during World War II, and I feel confident in asserting that it's likely that we could not, and as bad, would not. I just don't see that level of commitment, ability, or competence on the part of the American citizenry today, especially our youth, whose every daily activity seems to be bounded with their heads buried in their smartphones.

Is it a coincidence that we won World War II but lost Vietnam, the war characterized by rampant drug use among our fighting force?

I strongly advise all proponents of the legalization or even decriminalization of drugs, and yes, marijuana is a drug (including my obtuse, grossly misguided, and historically-ignorant brothers and sisters at the Minority Cannabis Business Association), to watch, in its entirety, something like The Complete History of the Second World War and then ask themselves if the effete, soft, self-absorbed, distracted, sacrifice-disabled youth of today could have ever fought and won that war, or a similar one, today--especially now that, if trending continues, they'll all also be walking around stoned.

Several of the wartime principles of that conflict, in other words the key figures such as Hitler, and Japanese Admiral Yamamoto, the architect of the December 07, 1941 attack on Pearl Harbor, rightly feared U.S. entry into the war. What they would have given to have faced an American fighting force and its vast quasi-military and civilian support network compromised by drugs--precisely the gift that we're about to drop into the lap of Russian oligarch Vladimir Putin, today--right now, in fact, as three states have just voted to legalize marijuana, and every other enemy or potential enemy of the United States.

Governor Phil Murphy of New Jersey, a leader and aggressive proponent of this block-headed legalization effort is, at 63 years old, even a touch older than I am--why isn't he thinking along similar rational, strategic, wise, genuinely patriotic, and far-sighted lines? Why must I be one of the few voices of sanity regarding this slow-motion car-wreck, this catastrophic mistake that America is in the process of making?

American Exceptionalism, Excepted

Definitions and explanations of the perspective called American Exceptionalism differ somewhat, but according to Wikipedia two of them are:

...the idea that America has a unique mission to transform the world...

...the sense that America's history and its mission give it a superiority over other nations.

Transform the world? Into what:  a like nation of fuzzy-thinking dope-smokers?

I assure you:  any nation that fancies itself not merely superior, but a class apart even from any putative, "conventional" class or group of superior nations, which is what "American Exceptionalism" also means, by fixed definition cannot be a nation of dope-smokers.

...With a nationwide network of drug dealers, of course, supplying those smokers. Such a national trajectory (/tragedy) explicitly indicates that governance of the nation has shifted into the hands of one or more of three groups that any wise nation would never abdicate to:  the young, the rapacious, the stupid.

Evidently New York Times Op-Ed columnist Jennifer Senior agrees with me regarding the undue influence of youth, as evidenced by her front-page column of just this morning, November 12, 2020, entitled Biden Is Old. That's a Good Thing.

WE'LL GLADLY PAY THAT TAX

New Jersey Governor Phil Murphy, one of the biggest cheerleaders for the legalization of dope in America, attempts to justify this legalization with an appeal to the taxpayer concerning the financial resources required to process arrests in his state, because marijuana is illegal:  $150 million dollars annually in tax money, he asserts, "...just to process marijuana arrests..."

$150M, however, is the smallest of prices to pay to help safeguard that faculty, the human mind, and the organ understood to generate it and in which it resides, the human brain, that is, at once, the locus of all that was, is, and ever can be for each of us, and for all of us, without which Humanity ceases to be, or can be, but cannot be all that it might.

No human paradigm is perfect, including our American political paradigm. If ours is so tortuous that relatively large groups of people feel a need or overwhelming desire to use drugs, then the resources required, including money, taxpayer or otherwise; personnel; technology; and natural resources required to process persons apprehended from anywhere along the drug chain, including growers, manufacturers, dealers, and yes, users, must simply remain a societal constant and be understood and accepted as such. Much as, even with the most advanced filtration, abatement, and other technologies we still understand and tolerate that our industrial society will generate a certain amount of environmental pollution.

And we continue to filter and abate--we don't simply give in and declare the generation of pollution a social good, to be permitted. Neither should the fact that fighting drugs costs money cause us to abdicate this fight.

Far better to keep fighting the Frankenstein monster, even if the fight must go on, forever--than misguidedly declare him a friend and let him right in the front door to destroy us without impediment.

Its unfortunate that the Governor appears not to have yet made the connection between the coronavirus pandemic and the legalization of drugs:  if this pandemic has taught the human race anything, it's that we have to jealously guard the integrity our health and ensure its full and complete optimization. Creating a nation of dope-smokers works at explicit crosspurpose with these objectives and with the mindset of full human actualization that we seek, or would seek if we knew to seek it.

STOP DRINKING AND START SMOKING DOPE

Governor Murphy also just issued orders effective Thursday, November 12, 2020, for bars and restaurants to close their inside facilities by 10:00 pm each night, lest young persons and other clubbing partiers become lax in their practice of pandemic guidelines as the night progresses, and they continue to party and drink.

U.S. News & World Report reports:

"New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy said Monday bars and restaurants must halt indoor dining from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. beginning Thursday in an attempt to control a resurgence of the coronavirus."

Why, however, isn't the Governor expressing a rightful equivalent concern regarding young people who are high on dope, which he has just succeeding in legalizing in his state of New Jersey?

Indeed, an equivalent concern should exist as young people and others, typically in groups, leave the bar or restaurant at 10:00 PM and go elsewhere, whether a park, inside a car, or a private residence, and continue drinking and/or smoke dope, as well, ensuring that looser behavior will actually continue, if not intensify, making it far more likely that pandemic protection guidelines such as masking and distancing will not be followed--the original concern motivating the 10:00 closing regulation. According to the addiction recovery clinic AddictionResource.com, common effects of marijuana use include:

1. Fatigue - This often develops due to the person experiencing a weed high which energizes them and therefore leaves them tired after.

2. Nausea - Often be linked to not having sleep or eating pattern when high and therefore upsetting the body physically.

3. Anxiety - After losing the calming effects of weed, people can often become overwhelmed and anxious.

4. The desire to drink and eat a lot - Cravings can also develop after the high as well as during the high.

5. Cravings for more weed - As with every drug, Marijuana is highly addictive, and after a high, the user may want more.

6. Insomnia - Once the relaxing effects of Marijuana wear off, anxiety returns and can keep one awake. Being awake causes other impacts to heighten.

7. Sweating and temperature change - A natural response of the body attempting to deal with the drug in system.

8. Depression - After the carefree effects of weed wear off, worries and problems often return stronger. Because of this, along with insomnia, depression builds

Does this sound like a state of body and mind conducive to increased adherence to Coronavirus pandemic control guidelines?

Moreover, on the day that marijuana is legalized in America, which international figures will be most delighted?

Answer:  those who oppose, and seek to destabilize, America. For the decline of America, and the West that it inevitably influences, will have become categorical, and a fait accompli.

Make America Great Again? Not with a stoned population, you won't, Mr. Trump (or Mr. Biden, Murphy, Weld, Boehner, Cuomo, and De Blasio).

As the human mind and our ability to think is compromised even further, through formally-sanctioned and encouraged everyday drug-use by millions of Americans, shiny new customers of the rapacious and self-satisfied "cannabis" industry, expect more large-scale socio-existential crises in America and elsewhere--not less.

So, you think that 9-11, climate change, and now the 2020 pandemic are bad? Buckle your seat belt, World, because you ain't seen nuthin' yet.

You read it, here, first.

For years, intellectuals, academicians, political scientists, and political and social psychologists have been walking around in a haze muttering to anyone who would listen, about the "pathological individualism" of American and similar cultures. Well, here it is:  when someone won't do something as easy as wear a mask, knowing or being warned that in such refrain they could literally be endangering the lives of others, perhaps many others, yet they still refuse--this is a textbook example of pathological individualism, an unfortunately all-too-real ethico-behavioral malady. Next-time you see someone without a mask in this Coronavirus environment, the illness is staring you right in the face.

Persons who refuse to wear a mask, or do so only grudgingly often assert that being forced is an infringement on their liberty. They don't want to be told what to do.

But this kind of complaint is a straw man, tending to obscure more relevant and powerful questions that such individuals should be asked, such as:  why must you be told? Why must you be forced?

The entire planet is now engaged in a once-a-century war with a mindless, merciless, and for most, unseen enemy which has the power to literally wipe out our entire species. There is presently no cure, nor preventive (i.e. a vaccine). Of the remaining options to fight this enemy, masking is, by all authoritative accounts, the most effective and powerful solution. In fact, some key authorities like Robert R. Redfield, the head of the United States Centers for Disease Control, long considered the global authority on health, actually states that not only does masking effectively protect the public (i.e you, your family, friends, and neighbors), but widespread masking can actually end the pandemic.

Given all this, my question to such persons, again, is why must they be told or forced to wear the mask? Why isn't their intellect or simple common sense indicating to them that masking is obviously the correct step to take?

Are such people simply of a kind of anti-authority personality type? The kind of person who refuses to wear their seat belt just because the government mandates it, whether it could save their life or not? The kind of person who will continue to profligately eat deep-fried foods like fries or onion rings not just because they taste good, but because the government and other health authorities advise against it, based on the levels of deadly saturated and especially trans-fat? The kind of person who, in third grade, refused to write their name at the top of their test, just because the teacher instructed them to?

Relatively Predictable

The refusal of some persons to wear a mask is not as surprising as might seem at first blush. Besides the inexact way that most people think, if they think, at all, most people are not knowledgeable in science and scientific ways of looking at things and deconstructing or analyzing them. True, it actually doesn't take much ability or acquaintance with any of these attributes to understand the easy medical logic of masking, and that many persons still don't fully "get it" only points to just how serious the ongoing decline of mind [© 2020 Vincent Frank De Benedetto] is.

Besides the medical logic of masking there is the moral logic of masking, and this is where "the ship really hits the fan," meaning, where particular contention and conflict arise.

Failure to understand, acknowledge, or properly value this moral logic is the second reason that the refusal of some persons to mask is unsurprising, as masking principally protects not the wearer, but everyone else:  those persons with whom the wearer comes into, even fleeting, contact. For an individual to cooperatively mask, they must hold some affection, they must, in some measure, care about everyone else around them--those persons who could be injured if the prospective wearer under discussion, here, does not mask. The foundational problem here and in fact behind every human problem and conflict is that care, being a function of Love, the larger general principle, is simply not in categorical, complete, or even significant abundance in a world not based officially, nor even largely unofficially, on Love.

To wit, in a room full of non-smokers, I wouldn't expect to find an ashtray. Neither, in our world of what my work terms nonLove [© 2020 Vincent Frank De Benedetto], should we expect to find an abundance of loving behavior, whether masking, or any other, even if easy to perform. Hence, no masks--and no real surprise.

Unthinking or ego-driven behavior in regard to any issue or sphere of life is injurious, and must be examined and corrected. As regards issues of life and death such as a pandemic, unthinking behavior is even more insidious and categorically unacceptable. I wonder how many Americans and others have died because of infection from someone wearing a mask incorrectly, or not at all, because they were influenced by the irrational bombast spewed by Curtis Sliwa on so many occasions, as well as, shamefully, the doggedly puerile behavior of the President of the United States, himself, who flagrantly, vacuously, and inappropriately went maskless for most of the pandemic. Is it any wonder that this gentleman is now likely to lose his re-election bid?

PRESERVE OUR HUMANITY

Futurist Alvin Toffler in his seminal 1970 book Future Shock described the high-tech, high-touch society, asserting that the former would generate and indeed require the latter. In formulating our COVID-19 guidelines we can certainly incorporate measures that preserve our humanity as advocated by Mr. Toffler, and Ms. Newitz in the New York Times of October 18, 2020, insofar as possible. But leaving the decision to mask or not to the individual simply won't fly in this large-scale pandemic environment. It's precisely because we've largely left the decision to the individual, and so many individuals refuse, that mandatory masking simply must be implemented and enforced. A methodology of consistency, continual public refreshers explaining the necessity, and kindness should minimize the kind of obstinance and enmity described by Ms. Newitz in her article.

Indeed, we have obstinance and enmity now, I'm afraid, and masking isn't even ubiquitously mandated. Persons bent on lack of cooperation likely won't, I'm afraid, no matter the clarity and consistency of instruction from health authorities.

TERRIBLE TWOs

In creating, permitting, and sustaining this pandemic, Humanity has shown itself to be as a stupid and arrogant child. Let us not prove ourselves an even more stupid and arrogant child by refusing to cooperate in the implementation of our most effective mechanism of reversal:  masking.

And if the cooperation required for this implementation compels the masses to lament, bristle, or protest as unfair their inclusion in the mandate for the mechanism of reversal, masking, given that just a tiny handful of them, the tiny handful of 9 billion people on this planet who were responsible for the creation and sustaining of the pandemic, starting with the Chinese government and the American President, but not they, the masses, let's inform them of their luck in finally encountering a socio-existential circumstance that will reveal the connection between they, the group without culpability, and they, the group with it. In other words, a mandated cooperation applying to everyone to end the pandemic will finally illustrate that all humans beings are essentially the same, are connected, and thus share a kind of general responsibility for, or at least commonality with, each other's mistakes. Indeed is such commonality, and the recognition that the mistake of the other could (present day), may already have (past), or some day indeed may (future) be the mistake of themselves, the basis for empathy, mercy, and forgiveness.

I have little sympathy for a society, regional, continental, or global, that destroys itself. Adults of this world, including politicians: get your noses out of your smartphone, put down your beer, turn off your pornography, stop torturing your neighbor, put down your comic book, stop eating your cookies and cake, throw away your brain-rotting dope, stop making so much idea-stifling noise, cease drowning your problems in fast food and sitcoms, stop focusing so narrowly on your immediate constituents and getting re-elected, and grow up, in the largest and most meaningful sense of the clause, and the reality. Be smart, informed, savvy, lucid, aware, literate, and articulate, and be both kind, and strong.

Actualize!

Actualization, in the human sphere, refers to that process by which a person actually meets or achieves the highest and fullest capacity in one or more areas of life, of which they are innately, inherently, or organically capable. For example, Amadeus Mozart possessed an extremely strong natural talent for music; that talent was his potentiality, or potential. But only his devotion to craft, resulting, for example, in hours of daily practice permitted his latent, or present but unrealized talent, to manifest, that is, to come to full fruition in the world. This fruition, where Mozart, in reality, achieved what he was capable of, indicates that he actualized, or attained a state of actualization.

Actualization of a person is a process resulting in powerful results. However, we begin to fully understand the impressive power of this process when we realize that a group of people, a country, for example, can actualize, as well as a single person.

Put another way, actualization is that process by which a person, or group of people, actually attain whatever their innate level of talent or capacity permits.

If we as a species can actualize, maybe, just maybe, we, the human race, won't experience another socio-existential crisis, maybe not even one, for many, many years--and maybe never.

NEW REALITY

Rather than resist the wearing of a mask, a better strategy would be a more realistic strategy:  as the success of every factor relevant to eradicating this virus, including the prospects for an extremely effective vaccine, developed soon, is unclear and uncertain, and as masking comprises an extremely effective, indeed the most effective, step, that we should embrace the wearing of the mask as part of the new reality that our carelessness as humans has initiated and compelled, ala' the adage, "If you can't beat 'em, join 'em."

Indeed, it's not difficult to yield a positive interpretation of the new reality, rather than categorically deem it a nuisance and interruption of life. For example, an entire masking industry, which in fact has already de facto begun, could help re-invigorate the American and global economies. We could also birth other industries, both horizontal and vertical, based on the new intersection of medical and sartorial realities. Who will be the next Helen Gurley Brown that will start FASHION MASKING magazine?

Over the millennia humankind has conceived, created, sported, and enjoyed countless variation in attire and accessory. The turn toward masking in America and elsewhere will be no different.

Let us ensure, categorically, that this, this once-in-a-century event, the pandemic of 2020, is not "wasted":  humankind must extract every possible lesson from this extended nightmare of death and inconvenience about how to better order itself, and conduct its affairs. How to more rationally, intelligently, and above all, wisely, operate in every sphere. How to do what thus far it has flagrantly failed to do:  finally incorporate into itself that principle and force that, properly understood, is the most powerful available to it:  Love.

If there were ever an event in recent, or even distant, memory that illustrates that each and every one of us on this planet is a brother and sister in one human family, and therefore must do our utmost to protect and guide each other, as well as ourselves, with compassion and intellect, empathy and intelligence, the 2020 Coronavirus pandemic is it.

You don't want to wear a mask, or you don't presently wear your mask correctly, for example, and no medical argument will persuade you?

Wear a mask anyway. Or start wearing yours correctly--because most, if not all, of your fellow citizens, who also happen to be your fellow human beings, will feel much better if you do. Start to show concern for their feelings (as well as their condition of health). In other words--start to Love them.

Needless to say, if you're a Christian you're supposed to be practicing this kind of Love, already, as is true of many other faiths (as well as love-oriented non-faith belief systems).

Were you to so act, you'd be making a sacrifice, and sacrifice is a function, or expression, of Love--at once the force and principle that we all know this world desperately needs. If unfamiliar with this kind of relationship with, and way of relating to, your fellow human beings, I suggest that you begin to familiarize yourself with it. It's a relationship of brotherly Love, as taught by all truly great thinkers and leaders over the long arc of history, from Christ to the Buddha to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. to Erich Fromm, a message of hope without which, I categorically assure you, especially in this time of technological and social complexity, humankind is going to go exactly nowhere, if not actually find itself regressing, that is, moving backward--a direction in which many may think we are, in fact, already moving.

We might say that the reason masking isn't wholly successful is that there's a co-factor required, that is often missing:  LOVE.

WHEEL AS METAPHOR

This pandemic, or any large-scale problem pertinent to individual, familial, social, political, or economic life, can be seen as a huge wheel--dry, however, with little or no lubrication. In this condition, the wheel will barely turn, or only with discernible difficulty. Add a lubricant, however, and viola, the wheel turns easily--often, very easily. The lubrication made all the difference in the world. The smoothly-functioning wheel can now take us anywhere we want to go, or easily help power any huge, complex machine of our choosing.

Of course, in the social "machine," or world, the supreme and peerless "lubricant" is Love, brotherly Love, properly understood, Agape [ugg op' pay] in the language of Greek philosophy. In the context of the present crisis, the Coronavirus, which is making life very difficult for many, many, people, each of us must ask ourselves:  is our attitude and behavior at this time helping the pandemic wheel turn more smoothly--or causing the continuation or even an increase in jolting, scraping, and screeching, rendering the pandemic wheel that much harder to negotiate for people and governments?

In other words:  during this pandemic, are you acting as a brother or sister in our one human family, attempting to assist your other brothers and sisters, in or out of government, media, academe, law enforcement, civilian life, or elsewhere, as they try to do precisely what you're trying to do--get through this pandemic with life, limb, family, and some semblance of pocketbook, intact?

If not, you might as well be a Coronavirus virion (i.e. complete virus particle) yourself, since you're assisting in the general downward spiral of person, planet, and society that is this pandemic, thus far.

I have put forth my MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan to save the world, not to gratuitously receive "Thanks"--but please show your Thanks, anyway. The global death toll will decrease rapidly, and the global economy will return. I am Vincent Frank De Benedetto, author of the MANDATORY GLOBAL MASKING plan. I'm a social theorist, and a philosopher, writer, health educator and thinker, Agape Master, inventor, musician, silence activist, neologist, and long-time, full-time family caregiver, presently doing extensive, arduous, and complex round-the-clock, minute-to-minute caregiving, alone. My sole sibling, single, childless, and five-years my junior, will not assist me, evidently suffering, if not a mental illness, as such, than certainly psycho-behavioral dysfunction, like, equivalent to, or producing "moral illness," a chief symptom the almost-categorical neglect of her immediate family, including not just her only sibling, her brother, me, over 60 years old, but her mother, 89 years old, ill, both of us of strictly limited financial resource. She appears to be acting in accord with a low native IQ in a kind of "social retardation," this behavior exhibited by both she and her boyfriend, himself of even lower function than she.

In concert with my mother's own behavioral idiosyncrasies, including misplaced hostility, and the strictly bovine intellect of my neighbors on this block, generally, producing impersonal, often injurious and sometimes even cruel behavior, in some cases explicitly criminal, toward myself and my family, I have felt for some time, and still do, that I'm surrounded by a juvenile, ethico-behavioral stultification of thought and behavior. This phenomenon, and the need to record it, and counter it, experienced generally in American, and certainly other cultures, is in part why I felt compelled to begin one of my key, under development, volumes NEIGHBORS OF DEATH.

The refusal of many persons to save their neighbor's life, and in some measure their own, by simply donning a mask, is exhibit #1 in the interminable jurisprudence of the dismal phenomenon of human non-actualization.

Must this court always be in session?

The bigotry evidenced by my sibling, five years my junior and 84-years our mother's junior, and thus formally of a different generation than both of us, is an example of the bigotry of the young against the old, a real phenomenon that I've experienced in my neighborhood, generally, and in the attention thus far given to women, and now persons of brown skin, has been little-recognized or highlighted, and neglected.

The life I was living prior to my parent's ilni (i.e. illnesses), has been suspended for over 20 years now, I'm presently 60, but my seminal work in social science must get out, so within the severely constrained framework of my present life I do my best to see to it that it does. But it's extremely difficult.

Said cultural, social, and personal orientation and its specific compromise of the United States, my country, are why I'm now engaged in an exploratory endeavor to run for the United States Presidency, to restore, or create, 2.) Love and connection between Americans, and 2.) full competence, indeed, Actualization, for the nation and its citizens, my Brothers and Sisters and Fellow Americans.

Actualization, a term from Psychology, refers to that endeavor to achieve the full measure of what is possible, whether an individual, or group of individuals such as a corporation or a nation.

I heard a short news segment on WNYC National Public Radio, with the President-Elect referring to the pandemic as "international."

I have literally never heard any politician deliberately note or observe this. It immediately causes me to wonder if he's become acquainted with this site, as it stresses the global character of the pandemic.

I've apprised the Biden campaign several times of this site and its message and plan.
